Vivian Valdmanis, PhD
Assistant Professor of Health Policy
Health Policy Program
University of the Sciences in Philadelphia
Email: v.valdma@usip.edu

Economic analysis of hospitals, health care delivery, and burden of illness issues yields insights into current approaches to financing and organization of clinic services, generating new policy options. These analyses are particularly critical in low income countries and in areas of advanced countries where people suffering from diabetes and chronic disease are served by public entities with limited resources.

Objectives in the public policy area as they pertain to economic analysis of health care include cost containment, quality, and access. Economics is the study of allocating resources to the best possible uses, which is information needed by public and private health care providers/producers.

CURRENT AREAS OF RESEARCH INTEREST

Dr. Valdmanis' research interests include productivity analysis of hospitals, burden of illness – focusing on diseases of the eye and burdens due to diabetes.
